SCARED CAT

This thread was started at 12:57 on 30 Jan 2010
My cat is very scared when someone she knows comes up to her to pat her, she automatically runs away not knowing what to do. She is 13 years old and very healthy. But I don't know what to do to make my puss like our family, and strangers. She's even scared of my nana who brought her up!!!

Hmmm, thats a hard one. Don't even try to understand why cats do the things they do. Whenever visitors come, 2 out of my 3 cats scoot and are never seen again until the visitors have left. Don't try to get the cat to come to you either, they're probably best left to come to you in their own time (funny creatures they are). Good luck with your kitty ><

Maybe her eye sight is starting to fail her - so she doesn't always recognise the person coming towards her so runs away?

I had two kittens (both passed over now) and they both were scaredy cats but I just ignored it. The up side is no-one can ever steal your pet and they don't spend a lot of time in other peoples yards as they are so scared.

Our cats were fine in the house but one wouldn't even come out even when my mother was here except in the last month of his life. My mother used to mind then when I went away as well and they were ok at her house.

She will not change now at her age and her hearing may not be so good either. She may get a fright when approached from behind. Cats are funny creatures and have a mind of their own.

My cat is also a scaredy cat. She jumps at any noise and takes off if you go to pick her up. She's also licking patches of fur out. I took her to the vet, thinking she had round worm, but was told she was neurotic and can have medication to calm her. I will be putting her on the meds as she just seems to be getting worse. Maybe this is your cats problem?

My cat Sassy won't let anyone touch her except for me, not even my partner who i've been with for the last 3 years and we've all been living together for the last year....
She has always been like this even though visitors intrigue her and she will go to sniff them as soon as they go to pat her she either runs away or swipes at them. I just let her be, that's her personality and being quite old she's set in her ways..although she still loves to cuddle up to me at night....haha so must be a softy at heart.
